Barely any progress
Refresh!
A tiny snippet of how the sublime editor looks like and some barely made "progress"
As a follow up, today I've decided to start working on updating one of my "portfolio" websites - jewelltry.com
Even though most of the day was spent on researching the latest, best, fastest, most popular technologies used nowadays to develop e-commerce websites, I've not managed to find anything too useful and still majority goes in favour for either quick setup stores like shopify or etsy or as in my case - bigcartel which I do highly recommend :)
Secondary approach to such development could be also done completely from scratch OR using something like wordpress or magento of which later I might try out too.
As to do at least some kind of progress, I've decided to fire up my beloved IDE for web development - Sublime Text 3 and scrambled the main page together. I gave it a shot to mess around with bootstrap classes a bit, as they are very helpful for rather simple and sleek looking websites, and I think I might stick to it.
On top of that, I've added a couple glyph-icons which are also provided within the bootstrap package.
All of this was done completely free of charge in my spare time, and I'm not planning on commercialising the website in any way.
My end goal is to get it to work as closely as the current jewelltry website works including the ordering system, admin panel and obviously payments, HOWEVER I'm hoping to only get it all working to the point where I could use it all as a reference could with restricted functionality, so a high fidelity prototype? :)
I'll include a couple images below showcasing the "final product" and current existing jewelltry store if you've not clicked on any of the links yet, however I'd also love to pinpoint some TO DO pointers to know what's coming.
- Some front end design bits to get them out of the way and get a feel for the project
- Back end - Fun stuff, still no clue what to use exactly, if all else fails, I'll just stick to namecheap hosting and use their database.
- Administration panel (Checking stock / seeing all orders / removing / adding items / etc...) IN short - CMS :)
- Not planning on implementing design for the store front like bigcartel / shopify etc..do.. YET, but might be a fun thing in the future.
- Payment systems implementation with their provided API's .. At least paypal? Always good thing to know :)
This list will more than likely become a lot fuller, but for now it's just main couple things to focus on in the next couple days (hopefully not weeks :) )
Tomorrow I'm hoping to work on improving couple more bits of the front end design and then start working on the back end / cm stuff and will more than likely include a separate post about version control :)
As promised couple images of what I can barely call progress and existing website:
Currently existing website above
"Progress" made through today..Shame on me :)
TL;DR:
Not enough development too much research, found nothing new, came up with a tiny to do list for next couple days (?Weeks??) shared what I use for development and showcased how it looks.
